Setting Up Your Map with the Map Setup Checklist
When you create a new map, YouMap walks you through a setup checklist with 13 short steps across 4 sections. It’s designed to help you get the basics in place before anyone else shows up. You can move at your own pace, skip the optional steps, and come back to anything later.
A progress bar at the top keeps track of where you are.
1. Identity
Give your map a clear identity so people know what they’re joining.
- Choose a map name
- Add a cover photo
- Write a short description (one or two sentences is plenty)
- Set your map’s home location

2. Structure
Set up how your map works before your first members arrive.
- Create a post template so contributions stay consistent
- Create your first post to give people something to react to
- Pin a place to the map so posts connect to real locations

3. Rules
Decide who can join and what they can do.
- Choose who can join: public, invite-only, or private
- Choose who can post
- Add moderators if you want help managing things (optional)

4. Growth
Get people to show up and keep coming back.
- Share your map link so others can find it
- Invite specific people directly
- Add a welcome post so new members know what to expect

You don’t have to finish everything at once. Your progress is saved so you can pick up where you left off.
