Post types define what contributors fill in when they add posts to your map. Without them, posts are just freeform notes. With them, every entry has exactly the right fields: a photo, a rating, a price range, or whatever your map's purpose requires.
- A restaurant guide where every entry has cuisine, price range, and a photo.
- A street art trail where every mural has the artist, year, and a description.
- A community notice board where lost pets and found items are separate post types, each with the right fields.
Every post type gets its own mapmoji: a bubble color and emoji that appears as the pin on the map. Followers can see at a glance what kind of post they're looking at without opening it.
Create a post type
Post Templates help keep posts on your maps consistent and relevant. They allow you to define specific fields (like text, images, ratings, and dates) for each post, making it easier to organize and discover information.
- Open your map and tap Map details.
- Scroll to Legend and click the pencil icon.
- On iOS, click Create new post type at the bottom of the post type list. On web, click + Add button.
- A post type gallery opens. You can start from scratch or use a ready-made post type from the gallery.
Post Type Fields
Fields are the prompts contributors fill in when they add a post. Choose fields that capture the information your map actually needs. A food guide might need cuisine type, price range, and a photo. A lost pets map might need breed, last seen location, and a contact method.
How to Edit Post Types
- Open Map details and scroll to Legend.
- Click the pencil icon. On iOS, tap Create new post type at the bottom of the list to access the same panel.
- Click the post type you want to edit. It expands to show its fields and an Edit post type button.
- Click Edit post type, make your changes, and click Save post type.
Disable or Remove Post Types
From the Edit post type form, you have two additional options instead of saving:
- Disable post type: Hides the post type from contributors without deleting it. You can re-enable it at any time.
- Remove post type: Removes the post type from your map entirely. Use this if you added a post type by mistake and want to discard it before saving.
